In Windows 7, the Safe Remove Hardware had been enchance to give you more detail of your devices.
In the previous version of windows, you will never know which drive is the one that you want to remove if you have more that 1 drive.

As you can see from the following screen shot, windows 7 actually tell you the devices name and the drive itself.

So you won't removed the wrong devices.
